The Mercedes-Benz Citaro attaches particular importance to driver safety. Since 1975, the ECE-R 29 regulation for trucks has specified the required survival space for the driver in case of a frontal impact in a truck. The same regulation has voluntarily been applied as a standard for the Citaro. A pendulum impact test has confirmed compliance with ECE-R 29. Based on this regulation, the frontal impact protection in the Citaro is unique for an urban regular-service bus. Passive safety is additionally enhanced by the rigid frame structure.
