Included with the Driving Assistance package, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST gives visual and audible warnings if there is insufficient distance from a vehicle or obstacle. It also assists the driver with emergency braking.

The system combines radar-based distance warning with braking assistance from the Brake Assist System (BAS) pro, thus helping to reduce the risk of a rear-end collision. Distance warning with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST is based on a mid-range radar sensor installed in the front section of the vehicle. At speeds between 30 and 160 km/h, the sensor continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle in front as well as the relative speed of the vehicle in front. Stationary obstacles can be detected up to a speed of 70 km/h.

If the distance to the vehicle in front is less than the safe distance for a period of several seconds, a warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up. If the distance quickly further decreases due to high speed or heavy acceleration, there is an additional audible warning. At the same time, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST activates the Brake Assist System (BAS) pro, which calculates the brake pressure required to prevent a rear-end collision. If the driver now steps hard on the brakes, the Brake Assist System pro automatically increases the brake pressure — if necessary — to a level appropriate to the situation. In the event of emergency braking, the ABS prevents the wheels from locking. The braking assistance from the Brake Assist System pro is cancelled if the brake pedal is released or if there is no longer a risk of collision.
